Setting Intentions: Fear of Failure? Or Success?

It’s 22 days past time for me to set my intentions for 2013. Notice I didn’t say I wanted to set resolutions. I’m an intention setter, at least I was on January 1, 2012. This year I am setting three intentions for myself: (1) refocus my blog on what interests me most; (2) expand my blog audience; and (3) write a book (yes, you read that right.). Will I accomplish these intentions? We’ll see. I’m going to do my best. And sometimes that’s what it takes, isn’t it?

I accomplished the intentions I set for 2012.  I intended to (1) lose weigh and maintain that weight loss (Thanks to a Weight Watchers lifestyle I lost and am maintaining that loss.); (2) earn money by writing (I sold a number of pieces in 2012, most notably an essay of mine appeared in a national bestselling book series, Chicken Soup for the Soul, and a series of my humorous essays were part of a national ad campaign for Poise.), (3) publicly present something I wrote (Two Chicken Soup for the Soul, Married Life! co-contributors and I did a well-attended reading and book signing.); and (4) challenge myself to do something I was afraid to do (I took on a Happiness Project and appeared on national television, on the Katie Show.)

When I mentioned to my daughter Tory how shocked I was that I achieved my 2012 intentions Tory shook her head in disbelief. You see, she’s the person who told me to focus on myself last year. She’s the young woman who told me how much she’d benefitted from my years of unwavering focus and support. She’s the one who told me that it was my time and I could do anything I set my mind to.  Her voice of encouragement helped keep me moving forward through 2012.

My wish for you, my friends, is that you have someone in your corner in 2013 and beyond. Encouraging you. Because you can accomplish great things, especially when you have the love and support of family and friends.
